The aim of Drugs Hapana Schools Outreach is to mentor, educate and spread awareness on dangers of abusing drugs among students, provide preventive strategies and mobilize them take the lead in its prevention.The Drugs Hapana team visits schools with celebrities, drug addict survivors, doctors and motivational life coaches inspiring students to stay in school, raise awareness on drugs and substance abuse through mentorship on career guidance, self - esteem, talent, etiquette, leadership, friendship, integrity and empowerment. All this enables them re-discover oneself, make informed decisions, live drug free and make better life choices.We also establish Drugs Hapana Clubs (DHA CLUB) in schools that engage students in spreading awareness on dangers of illicit drugs that may jeopardize their future career.
Drugs Hapana Initiative in partnership with CBS FM Radio Buganda spearheaded the “Tuyambeko Butabika campaign on 26th July 2018 in commemoration of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking also known as World Drug Day to cater for the influx of patients admitted daily at Butabika National Referral Hospital. We raised items through crowd sourcing from various individuals, schools and organizations. Parliament of Uganda, also offered 100 mattresses and all items were handed over to the hospital by Drugs Hapana Team during the visit on 26th July 2018. The one - month campaign raised 200 mattresses, 100 blankets, 30Maize floor, 10 bags of beans, and 10 bags of sugar. Others were 30 boxes of soap cream jelly, 50pairs of bed sheets, and 30 boxes of sanitary pads, among others.
This strategy is designed to engage and mobilize communities into prevention activities and programs to reduce use of harmful legal products among youth.When community understands the dangers associated with drugs and substance abuse, they too spread awareness as change agents in society.This also includes Peer to Peer community Education dialogues and development of policies or enforcement of regulations, mass media efforts, and awareness programs.Here we create partnerships, network and collaboration with the media, entertainment industry, various key stakeholders, grass root leaders, parents and caregivers, informal and formal business partners, public health and rehabilitation centers in curbing the abuse of drugs among the youth. The anti-drug messages conveyed too increase knowledge and change attitudes.
designed to transform girls into believing that their dreams can come true and everything under the sun is possible if they put their energy and time to doing it. We mentor these girls to rise above their challenges and develop into economically independent, confident, and successful women leaders.Our teachings involve girls against teenage pregnancy and child marriages, leadership, etiquette, talent, confidence building, entrepreneurship, how to take care of their bodies – sexual health and rights, violence in schools.We have also introduced training in reusable sanitary pad production to increase girls overall health and hygiene. Our goal is to offer them support and encouragement to stay in school and stay focused on achieving their dreams.
In order to address the drugs and substance abuse scourge, Drugs Hapana Uganda in collaboration with other partners developed an intervention to equip youth with productive vocational and entrepreneurial skills for job creation that enable them create gainful employment for better livelihoods.This intervention is through partnerships with vocational training institutions where youth are equipped with various market driven vocational skills in agriculture, baking and confectionary, electrical installation, tailoring and fashion design, tractor operation, soap making, hair-dressing, mechanics beauty therapy, craft and design among others all for job creation.
We are dedicated to reducing the impact of drugs and substance abuse in our communities through education, advocacy and training.With collaboration from different partners, we facilitate conversations that support awareness and prevention of drug abuse among youth in Uganda.This involves workshops, trainings, conferences educating masses about the dangers and prevention measures of drugs and substance abuse, health matters, business growth and poverty eradication programs among young people.
